Codes & Conventions on magazine contents pages

  • They always have pictures in the middle, top and bottom
  • They all have different fonts for the headings, sub-headings and text
  • The colours on the contents page correspond to the colours on the logo and the front cover
  • They all have the date or the date that the next issue will be released
  • The pictures all have puns or slogans
  • They all have contact details (address, phone number, e-mail)
  • The images are mostly in direct address
  • The majority have page numbers
  • The majority have letters from the Editor
  • They all have images of the Editor
  • Masthead is the same font as the masthead on the front cover
  • Article page number on each image
  • All magazine contents pages have between 3-7 images
  • They are all split into columns
  • They have a bold colour block to break up pages
  • Not all pictures are images of people, sometimes they are cut outs of objects
  • They all have the articles organised into sections
What are they for?
  • They are to help the reader find articles
  • They are to show what exactly is in the magazine
  • It helps keep it organised
